Garrison Ortiz

MANAGER

Garrison was a competitive athlete for 12 years, competing in football, swimming, soccer, and track. His swim coach introduced Garrison to CrossFit in 2012 and the competitiveness and community had him hooked ever since. When Garrison realized that spending hours at the gym, in the pool, and consuming whatever food was in site wasn't enough, he constantly found himself frustrated with training.

This led to him trying out several “cookie cutter” meal plans and training programs. It wasn’t until one of his younger siblings was deemed pre-diabetic that he really took interest in nutrition. As his sibling’s lifestyle was dependent upon nutrition and being the naturally curious “science guy”, he deep dove into understanding nutrition to the best of his ability.

With degrees in Biology & Chemistry and pursuing his Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification, Garrison began completely overhauling his and his siblings relationships with food and themselves. This transition led to the training and lifestyle improvement that he had been looking for and the comfort of knowing that everything was being done to help keep his sibling as healthy as possible.

Garrison is a gym manager and full time CrossFit coach. His relatable personality, ability to listen, and to provide beneficial feedback provide for a well-rounded coaching experience.

In his free time, Garrison enjoys spending time with his two pugs in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Michael Colwell

COACH

I grew up in a household comprised of three competitive boys, a Colonel in the Marine Corps, and a fitness instructor. To keep up with my family and perform my best on the field required proper fueling, thus the beginning of my nutrition journey. As I entered college I lost sight of a balanced diet and let my busy school and practice schedule breed bad habits. I craved carbohydrates to fuel my brain which meant constantly eating my three favorite P's (pasta, pretzels, and popcorn )!

Thankfully, I began to study biochemistry where I mastered the fundamentals of energy production within humans and was able to apply that knowledge to my own life.

Doing so made me a better student and athlete, gaining more energy to focus in the classroom, and to truly perform my best in training. In conjunction with eating a balanced diet, I was able to fix other detrimental habits in my life. Turning off screens before bed led to deeper sleep which improved my memory for school, and my recovery time from training. Prepping food I would eat for the week led to better preparing for the week in general which increased my productivity. Having the courage to fix my diet allowed me to improve all different facets of my life!

Today, I apply my undergraduate degree in biochemistry to training, nutrition, and living the best life possible! It is my goal to not only maximize the performance of others in the gym, but outside as well; in the office, at home, and in relationships.

You can find me training for my next competition in the gym, at the emergency room #improving lives, or in the kitchen whipping up enough food to feed seven people!

Jake Losse

COACH

Jake began his passion for strength and conditioning, in an effort to make up for always being shorter, and smaller than everybody else on the field as a rugby player and wrestler. That naturally lead to working to bring that to others in college as a personal trainer. Physically broken from his years as a runner, wrestler, and rugby player, he was introduced to Crossfit and the competitive nature of it, as well as the gains he felt on the rugby field had him sold.

He eventually got his level 1 and worked as a coach in Chicago while earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

He blends his current role as a Therapist with a general love of moving well, moving often, and helping others to do the same.

Morgan Bratton

COACH

Morgan Bratton is a part-time coach at CrossFit SoCo. While her Level-1 certification is a recent advancement, her relationship with health and fitness has always been a major part of her life. Along with CrossFit, Morgan has competed and participated in other physical disciplines such as dance, cross country and track, Krav Maga, and Ultimate Frisbee.

When Morgan began her career as a secondary English teacher, she knew she needed something that gave her the most benefit in a very limited schedule. Her friend introduced her to CrossFit Thousand Oaks and It was a perfect fairy tale ending with love at first WOD. With CrossFit, Morgan quickly discovered that this approach to health and fitness transcended just breaking a sweat: she came for the work out but stayed for the mental and emotional impact the CrossFit pedagogy has on an athlete. The culture of friendship, camaraderie, and growth at the heart of any successful CrossFit box is the most important element that keeps athletes engaged and hungry for more. To Morgan, being an athlete is more than just being strong, fast, or flexible; it’s about mindset, determination, discipline, and the joy of self-discovery. It’s the athlete mentality CrossFit cultivates and her life long goal of helping others that inspired Morgan to go beyond just being a member, but a coach that inspires others to be better everyday.
